Federal Govt Launches CBPP Vaccination Campaign in Yobe .

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, in collaboration with the Yobe State Ministry of Livestock Development, has launched a vaccination campaign against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) in Yobe State.

While declaring the campaign open, in Damaturu, the state capital, the Minister of the Ministry for Livestock Development, Dr Muktar Idi Maiha, emphasizing the disease’s significant economic impact on Nigeria’s cattle population.

Represented at the event by the Director of Animal Health and Reproductive Services, Dr. Mitchell Alao, Dr Muktar Maiha, pnoted that the campaign aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to improve livestock health, productivity, and food security.

The Minister explained that the first phase of the Programme will involve Yobe and Plateau states.

He pointed out that two thousand five hundred animals were targeting to be vaccinated from each of the two states.

Dr Maiha urged field officers and veterinary professionals to uphold high standards of biosecurity and animal handling.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Yobe State Ministry of Livestock Development, commended the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development for the intervention, saying it comes at a needed time.

He further appealed to the Ministry to scale up doses of vaccine interms allocation to Yobe State.

In an address of welcome, the Acting Director, Department of Veterinary Medical Services, Yobe State, acknowledging the importance of the campaign in improving animal health and safeguarding pastoralists’ livelihoods.

He further thanked stakeholders, particularly cattle breeders’ associations, for their cooperation and support.

The campaign aims to strengthen disease surveillance, enhance preventive veterinary services, and promote a modern, resilient livestock sector.
