Gov. Buni Mourns Boat Mishap Victims in Nguru, Orders Intensified Rescue Efforts

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 25 persons in a boat mishap that occurred in Nguru Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as a monumental loss to the affected families and the entire state.

In a condolence message, signed by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, Governor Buni said he received the shocking and devastating news of the accident with a heavy heart, noting that the mishap claimed 25 lives, while 14 persons are still missing and 13 others were rescued.

The Governor prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and directed that those rescued should receive immediate medical attention.

He also expressed hope that more survivors would be found alive.

“I pray that more survivors will be rescued to reunite with their families,” the Governor said.

Meanwhile, Governor Buni has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Fire Service, and the Nguru Local Government Council to mobilize additional resources to intensify the search and rescue operations for those still missing.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred when a canoe conveying 52 passengers from Adiyani in Jigawa State to Garbi in Nguru Local Government Area capsized.
Twenty-five passengers were confirmed dead following the accident.

The Governor further cautioned the public against the overloading of canoes and vehicles, stressing the need to adhere strictly to safety measures in order to prevent avoidable accidents.

He also directed SEMA to provide immediate relief and support to the families of the victims, while rescue efforts continue until all missing persons are accounted for.
