A youth organization operating under the banner of the Bomai Yobe East Solidarity Movement has called on Senator Ibrahim Mohammad Bomai, who represents Yobe South Senatorial District, to contest the governorship of Yobe State in the 2027 general elections.
The call was made on Sunday in Damaturu during the inauguration of the movement’s newly elected executive members.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the group, Abba Soso Geidam, said the movement was established ahead of the 2027 elections with the primary aim of mobilizing support for Senator Bomai’s governorship ambition. He described the senator as the most qualified among potential aspirants in the state.
According to Geidam, Senator Bomai’s eight years in the Senate are marked by numerous developmental projects that have positively impacted his constituency and the state at large.
He expressed confidence that no other aspirant could match the senator’s record of performance and urged the remaining thirteen local government areas of Yobe State to join the call for Bomai to enter the race.
Also speaking, the Pioneer Secretary of the Bomai Support Group, Ibrahim Mohamed, said the campaign was driven by youths who have firsthand knowledge of the senator’s achievements.
He noted that Bomai’s contributions during his first and second tenures in the Senate have earned him widespread recognition beyond Yobe State.
Mohamed highlighted the senator’s emergence as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content (LCT), describing it as a rare feat for a second-term senator and attributing it to his leadership qualities.
He further described Senator Bomai as a good listener with a deep understanding of governance, shaped by his 35-year career in the civil service before venturing into politics.
He recalled that Bomai joined partisan politics in 2018 and went on to defeat an incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator by a margin of over 29,000 votes, adding that the senator’s achievements within six years rival those of lawmakers with decades of experience.
On the issue of zoning and political rotation, Mohamed expressed support for a shift in power, arguing that political inclusiveness demands fairness.
He noted that Zone A had governed Yobe State until 2007, while a candidate from Yobe South briefly held the position afterward, stressing that the current call seeks to allow Zone B to complete the power rotation.
The event signals early political mobilization and growing youth support for Senator Ibrahim Mohammad Bomai’s potential governorship bid as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to take shape in Yobe State.
