CDD Empowers Borno Journalists with Skills to Tackle Fake News.

Members of the fourth estate of the realm have been called upon not to be misguided by misinformation, disinformation and Mal-information and also to avoid headlines that normalize hate as well as to promptly admit errors when occurs.

The call was made during a two day capacity building workshop organised by Centre for Democracy Development (CDD) which was held at the ministry of reconstruction rehabilitation and resettlement office on 23rd and 24th of January 2026.

Speaking at the event the CDD training coordinator, Mrs Chioma Iruke, who said the training was designed to equipt journalists in Borno State with the ability to identify misinformation that led people in to chaos with wrong narratives.

During the practical session, Mrs Chioma Iruke, displayed video clips content created by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital manipulation tools which is a major key in today’s dissemination of fake news and fake contents and how to identify through the use of Deepware.ai, truescan, goggle reserve image among others.

She then urged journalists to use the skills learned in the training not to fall victims to false narratives, stressing that ethical and responsible journalism is a key to earn public trust.

NUJ Chairman Abdulkarim Haruna, commended CDD for the timely workshop and promised to utilize the skills learned in day-to-day news reporting.

At the end of the capacity building workshop participants engaged in discussions for the way forward on how to promote ethical journalism in Borno State.
