The Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development has hosted a delegation from the Embassy of Canada to Nigeria under the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, CFLI, as part of efforts to strengthen peacebuilding and reconciliation in Borno State.

The stakeholders’ meeting, held at Hajja Manga Hall of the Foundation in Maiduguri, focused on the implementation of the project titled “Bridging the Gaps of Sustainable Peace and Reconciliation in MMC and Jere Local Government Areas of Borno State.”

Executive Director of the Foundation, Hamsatu Allamin, highlighted achievements recorded in mentoring and capacity building for community mediators, while appreciating the continued support of the Canadian Government.

She recalled the risks faced by women peace advocates during the peak of the insurgency and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, and community healing.

With support from CFLI, the project include setting up the Community Women Mediators Forum and partnering with Community Advocates for Transitional Justice (CADJ) to enhance grassroots dialogue, promote understanding and reintegration of formerly radicalized boys and girls through child-centred approaches aimed at reducing stigma and enhancing acceptance within communities.

During the discussions, the Canadian delegation Colton Brydges described the project as significant, and as a powerful example of what is possible when communities invest in the rehabilitation and deradicalization of children and recommended extending its duration to ensure deeper and sustainable impact.

Project Manager Mallam Maigari identified challenges from the baseline assessment, including stigmatization of repentant insurgents and the need for structured psychosocial support.

Community leaders, including the District Head of Maisandari and other stakeholders, emphasized the importance of sustained support, non-violent approaches, and structured reintegration in achieving lasting peace.
