The Save Mama Digital Platform is an application that enables emergency requests for pregnant women or newborns, allowing the call centre to deploy the nearest registered vehicle for quick movement to a health facility.

The initiative operates under the Maternal and Newborn Mortality Reduction Innovative Initiative (MAMII) through the REMSAT Project, aimed at reducing preventable delays affecting pregnant women and newborns during medical emergencies across rural communities.

Speaking, the SEMSAS Consultant for Bauchi State, Dr Aminu Tukur Sulaiman, told Radio Nigeria the sensitisation was to prepare, pregnant women and Triage Officers as well as Mama2Mama group for the digital platform scheduled to begin operation this March.

Dr Aminu Sulaiman said the programme provides a dedicated phone number where pregnant women can directly contact the call centre or Triage Officer, describe their location, and receive swift transportation using approved vehicles, tricycles or motorcycles.

He explained that from June 2025 to date, the programme has recorded about four thousand nine hundred beneficiaries, bringing it close to achieving its five thousand target across the eleven benefiting local government areas in the state.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria, a pregnant woman and mother of one, Rahina Aliyu, said the initiative was timely, given the current economic difficulties faced by families and appreciated both federal and state governments for supporting safer maternal healthcare.

A Triage Officer, Bara’atu Abubakar from Wandi Ward, said they function as intermediaries linking beneficiaries with service providers to ensure prompt responses and reduce delays in emergency maternal transport.
