Bauchi Targets Over 250 Thousand Children for Malaria Vaccination

Bauchi State Government has introduced Malaria Vaccine into Routine Immunisation, scheduled to commence on Thursday this week, targeting two hundred and fifty thousand children, aged five to twenty one months across the state.

Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed stated this during a stakeholders’ Engagement, held at the board’s Conference Hall in Bauchi.

Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said the First Lady, Hajiya A’isha Bala Mohammed would on Thursday this week launch the vaccine roll out, noting the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA’s effort in providing adequate of doses to the state.

He called on parents to utilise the opportunity by presenting thei children within the categorised ages to take the vaccine as provided by the federal ministry of health and social welfare through the NPHCDA.

While giving an overview of the vaccine roll out, representative of NPHCDA, Dr Kamal Musa said the vaccine would be administered in four doses, where a child would be given the first shot at five months, then two separate ones after four weeks each and the last dose at fifteen months.

Dr Kamal Musa said Nigeria has spent huge amount of money to procure the vaccines, noting its significance in preventing children against Malaria, which is one of the devastating child-killer diseases in the country.

Also speaking, the Board’s Director, Disease Control and Immunisation, Dr Adamu Muhammad who said the Malaria Vaccine was tested and found to be safe and efficacious, assured that it would be available in all healthcare facilities across the state.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Health Educator, Ribado Mohammed has called on Journalists, Civil Society Organisations, traditional and religious leaders to sensitise parents on the Malaria vaccine roll out to be launched tomorrow Thursday 5th March 2026.

He highlighted the significant role being played by all stakeholders in sensitising and mobilising the public on any developmental initiative aimed at improving their livelihood, noting that the board cannot achieve any of its targets without engaging them.

In a remark, the Chief Imam, Usman Bin Affan Juma’at mosque, Danjuma Goje in Bauchi metropolis, Malam Attahiru Bakoji commended the federal and state governments for the Malaria Vaccine Introduction into Routine Immunisation noting that it was long overdue.

Speaking the Village Head of Tirwun in Bauchi local government area, Alhaji Muhammad Tirwun said the latest development would enable the traditional institutions to provide comprehensive explanation to their communities particularly in dispelling misconception and hesitancy against immunisation.
