Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has distributed starter packs and business kits worth over two billion Naira to nearly three thousand youth who completed various vocational training programmes across Borno State.
The initiative is part of the state government’s strategic drive to promote self-reliance and reduce unemployment among insurgency-affected youth.
The beneficiaries, drawn from nine modern vocational institutes across the state, were trained in high-demand fields including Information Technology, plumbing, construction, tailoring, and welding.
Distributing the kits valued at over two billion Naira, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum emphasized that his administration remains committed to restoring the dignity of young people, particularly those whose lives were disrupted by over a decade of insurgency
The Governor recalled that since 2019, his administration has established five major vocational enterprises institutes in Muna, Mafa, Biu, Shani, and Magumeri. This is in addition to the reactivation of nine other centres and the creation of three “second-chance” entrepreneurship schools dedicated to women and girls.
Professor Zulum noted that these strategic investments in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, known as TVET, are aimed at developing a skilled workforce capable of contributing to both the state and national economy.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Engineer Lawan Abba Wakilbe, described the programme as a direct product of the Governor’s visionary leadership. He noted that the evolution of the initiative reflects a deep recognition of the need to equip Borno’s youth with practical and employable skills.
Some of the graduates who spoke with Radio Nigeria expressed their gratitude to the Governor. They promised to return to their respective localities to establish workshops and become employers of labour by training other youths in their communities.
