The Yobe State Government has launched a six-month vocational training programme for 200 Almajiri graduates in Damaturu.
The initiative, facilitated through the Arabic and Islamic Education Board in collaboration with the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with practical skills for self-reliance.
Executive Secretary of the Board, Sheikh Umar Abubakar, said the programme, approved by Governor Mai Mala Buni, will train participants in tailoring, shoe making, carpentry, welding, solar installation, and building construction.
He explained that the beneficiaries will be provided with accommodation, feeding, medical care, and close supervision throughout the training period, alongside lessons in Arabic and English to enhance communication.
In his remarks, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir, highlighted the importance of skills acquisition, noting that skills are now a global currency.
He also emphasized that the training will cover multiple skill levels, with plans to ensure proper certification for participants.
Dr Bashir added that programme is part of government efforts to empower Almajiri graduates and reduce unemployment in the state.
