The North East Development Commission, NEDC, has intensified efforts to improve water supply in Buni-Yadi and surrounding communities with the completion and handover of the Buni-Yadi/Buni-Gari Water Supply Scheme to the Yobe State Government.
Speaking during the handover, the State Coordinator of the Commission, Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said the project is aimed at strengthening water distribution from Buni-Gari to Buni-Yadi and its environs, as well as supporting the state government in ensuring sustainable water supply.
According to him the project is among 222 developmental projects earlier commissioned and handed over in June 2025 by Governor Mai Mala Buni, alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Maigari, and the management of the Commission.
Professor Ali Abbas explained that the facility has now been inspected and formally handed over after its retention period, adding that the NEDC will continue to support the Yobe State Government in its maintenance and management.
He further noted that over six kilometres of pipeline reticulation were installed based on requests from the Buni-Yadi community to expand water coverage across the area.
Receiving the project on behalf of the State Government, the General Manager of the Yobe State Water Corporation, Baba Habu, described the project as a major intervention that will significantly reduce water scarcity, particularly in Buni-Yadi.
He commended the NEDC for complementing the efforts of the state government and assured that the facility will be properly maintained for the benefit of residents.
Also speaking, the Director of Technical Services at the Yobe State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Mai Sule Abubakar, said the project is timely as demand for water rises during the dry season.
He added that the scheme will improve access to safe water supply in both rural and urban communities, while appreciating the strong partnership between the Yobe State Government and the NEDC.
