The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to community-driven policing and the protection of lives and property across the state.

The Commissioner stated this during an interactive security meeting held at the Area Command Headquarters in Damaturu with strategic stakeholders drawn from youth associations, market groups, GSM dealers, Miyetti Allah, traditional leaders, and other community representatives.

The statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, indicates that the Area Command supervises six Divisional Police Headquarters, including Damaturu A, B and C Divisions, as well as Gujba, Bara, and Tarmuwa Divisions.

Addressing participants, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin appreciated stakeholders for their continued cooperation in maintaining peace and security in the state and called for sustained collaboration with the Police Command.

He assured residents that his office remains open to receive complaints, suggestions, and credible information aimed at improving policing services.

The meeting extensively discussed major security challenges confronting the state, particularly the growing menace of drug and substance abuse among youths, which the Commissioner described as a major contributor to criminal activities.

The Police Commissioner also expressed concern over the increasing movement of individuals carrying dangerous weapons such as knives and cutlasses within the metropolis and other parts of the state.

He warned that such acts would not be tolerated and directed Divisional Police Officers to intensify efforts toward curbing the trend.

CP Jibrin further urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and useful information capable of assisting efforts to combat crime.

The Commissioner also stressed that the Nigeria Police Force exists to serve and protect law-abiding citizens and not to harass members of the public.

He advised residents to report any police officer found engaging in misconduct or unprofessional behaviour through the appropriate superior authorities or Police Complaint Response Units for necessary disciplinary action.

The meeting featured an interactive session where stakeholders raised various security concerns, while the Commissioner assured them of the Command’s continued commitment to proactive and intelligence-led policing.
