ATBUTH Resident Doctors Appeal for Help to Complete Lounge Project

By Murtala Muhammad

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi Branch, has solicited the support of Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) towards the completion of its Lounge project aimed at providing a conducive environment for professional development, research and recreation.

The President of ARD ATBUTH, Dr Salisu Muhammad Mukhtar, who made the appeal while receiving the management and staff of BWSO during a courtesy visit to his office in Bauchi, explained that the project, which has reached about 60 per cent completion, was conceived to provide a befitting space where members can conduct research, relax and engage in professional interactions.

This According to him would ultimately enhance healthcare service delivery at the hospital.

He stated that members of the association had solely financed the project through a self-help initiative since its commencement in 2022, with each member contributing N10,000 monthly towards its execution.

According to him, the prevailing economic situation and rising cost of construction materials have significantly weakened the association’s financial capacity, making it difficult to complete the project through members’ contributions alone.

Dr Mukhtar noted that completion of the facility would improve the welfare and productivity of Resident Doctors and contribute to better healthcare services for patients across the tate.

He further disclosed that if support was provided for the completion of the project, the association would name the lounge after Dr Bala Maijama’a Wunti in recognition of his contributions towards improving access to quality healthcare services.

Responding, the Chief Executive Officer of BWSO, Malam Mukhtar Ahmed Jarmajo, commended the leadership and members of the Association of Resident Doctors for their vision, sacrifice and commitment towards improving their professional environment through self-help efforts.

Malam Jarmajo pledged to facilitate the completion of the project, noting that improving the welfare and working conditions of healthcare professionals remains critical to achieving quality healthcare service delivery.

He requested the association to provide the project’s Bill of Quantities (BOQ), architectural designs and implementation plan to enable the organisation conduct the necessary assessment and determine the most effective areas of intervention.
