Over 2,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in seven communities across Dass, Tafawa Balewa, and Bogoro Federal Constituency have received relief materials to cushion the effects of their hardship.
The materials, provided by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), were distributed to IDPs in Boto and Lere (Tafawa Balewa), Boi and Bungam (Bogoro), as well as Dot, Tsohon Gari, and Wandi (Dass Local Government Area).
Speaking during the symbolic presentation of the materials, which comprise food and non-food items, the Commission’s Deputy Director, Resettlement and Early Recovery, Muhammad Sani Umar, said the relief package includes 1,000 bags of 25kg rice.
Other items include 732 cartons of spaghetti, 180 cartons of cooking oil, about 1,500 sets of children’s clothing, and 732 men’s textile materials.
The Commission provided 732 women’s wrappers, over 730 rubber mats, and 732 blankets.
Alhaji Muhammad Sani Umar stated that the gesture was in response to a request from the House of Representatives, through the member representing the constituency, for relief materials for IDPs in the area.
He explained that the Commission had recently sent a delegation to assess the situation and take inventory of needs in the affected communities.
Receiving the materials, the member representing the constituency, Jafaru Gambo Leko, expressed gratitude to God and commended the NEDC and other key stakeholders for their continuous support.
Jafaru Gambo Leko also appreciated donor agencies for their assistance to the IDPs and pledged the fair and transparent distribution of all relief materials to the beneficiaries.
The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of the materials.
Meanwhile, the NEDC has also presented emergency relief materials to the Misau Koskos Orphans Foundation for onward distribution to orphans and other less privileged individuals in the area.
Presenting the materials to the Foundation’s management, the Commission’s Deputy Director, Resettlement and Early Recovery, Muhammad Sani Umar, encouraged communities to form development associations for the overall progress of the zone.
He emphasised that the NEDC was established to provide assistance to victims of natural and man-made disasters across the six states in the North-East zone, which has suffered severe setbacks due to insurgency.
Also speaking, the Bauchi State Coordinator of the NEDC, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashir, urged the management of the Foundation to ensure fair and just distribution of the relief materials.
Receiving the materials on behalf of the Foundation, Board Member Abubakar Muhammad Gidado expressed appreciation for the donation and promised to uphold the trust placed in them.
The relief materials presented to the Foundation included:
200 bags of 25kg rice, 50 cartons of spaghetti, 50 bags of sugar, 50 cartons of macaroni, 100 gallons of cooking oil, clothing materials for men, women, and children.
