The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Bauchi State Council has directed all its members and affiliate unions as well as Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to join the nationwide indefinite strike on Monday 3rd June 2024 as declared by the national leadership.

The Acting Chairman of the Council, Comrade Ibrahim Maikudi gave the directive at a news briefing shortly after an Executive Council meeting with other affiliate unions in Bauchi.

He said the state council was keenly observing the ongoing negotiations between the national leadership of the council and the federal government and received a directive from the former to embark on an indefinite strike.

Comrade Maikudi said NLC was demanding reasonable Minimum Wage and immediate reversal of the hiked Band A segregated Electricity Tariff of ₦225 to ₦65 per kilowatt.

He argued that the ₦60,000 proposal as the new National Minimum Wage was insensitive as it was not commensurate with the hardship Nigerians are going through.

The Acting Chairman, NLC Bauchi State Council said since the federal government remained adamant towards their demands, the congress has no other option than to embarked on its planned action.

Comrade Ibrahim Maikudi said the whole country would be shut down as an expression of displeasure over the government’s insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians.

He added that since the President’s pronouncement of removal of fuel subsidy last year, prices of goods and services continue to skyrocket and no measure has been put in place by the government to stop that.
