Bauchi Gov’t holds first-ever Inter-Secondary Schools Fabric Competition.

Bauchi State Government says it is engaging Secondary School Students in Creative Arts and Craftsmanship towards preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit of communities for national unity and integration.

The State Commissioner of Education Dr Jamila Dahiru stated while declaring open the first ever Inter-Secondary Schools Fabric Competition with the theme: “Unity in Diversity.

Dr Jamila Dahiru who said the competition symbolizes how different patterns, colors, and textures, derived from varied cultures and traditions blend to produce stunning works of art, encouraged all stakeholders to celebrate such differences while recognizing the strength and beauty of individual collective efforts.

“This theme resonates deeply with our community, emphasizing how our diverse backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives can come together to create something truly extraordinary”, she notes.

She appreciated all the participating schools, judges, and other stakeholders for their hard work, dedication, passion and innovative skills towards the realisation of every art piece created in the competition.

“I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our participants, judges, and guests. Your presence here today is a testament to the importance of preserving and promoting our cultural arts”, Dr Jamila states.

While emphasising the importance of preserving and promoting cultural arts, the Commissioner encouraged all education stakeholders to acquaint themselves with the history and culture of diverse ethnic nationalities through stories, traditions, and the works of art.

“As we embark on this journey of discovery and admiration, I encourage everyone to take the time to appreciate the stories, traditions, and hard work embedded in each fabric”, the Education Commissioner stresses.

Earlier, the Director School Services in the ministry, Hajiya Halima Musa said the event organised in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art was aimed at discovering and building arts and craftsmanship talents among students in schools across the state.

The Curator National Gallery of Art Bauchi Attahiru Musa who emphasised the need for stakeholders to support such initiatives, noted that the move would development the arts and craft industry by building young talents.

A Student from Government Girls College Bauchi Grace Dantala who appreciated the ministry of education for the initiative, urged government to support children realise their dreams through the provision of quality and affordable education.

The schools that emerged first in the four categories of the competition are Government Day Technical College Bauchi in Cap Embroidery, Hally Bees Academy Bauchi in Men’s Dress, Government Day Technical College Tafawa Balewa Women’s Wrapper, and Government Day Secondary School Kofar Wambai Embroidery Design.
