Environmental Sanitation: Court Fines Two Kano Markets

The Mobile court attached to Kano state central sanitation committee at the state ministry of environment and climate change has fined Bachirawa Abattoir in Ungogo local government area the sum of three hundred thousand Naira for failure to sanitize their slaughter house.

Magistrate Auwal Yusuf Suleiman who give the order said the butchers were found to be operating in an unhygienic environment, a situation that may threaten public health.

The Court also ordered the management of the abattoir to pay the sum of three hundred thousand Naira as fine for noncompliance to sanitation law and monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

“The abattoir was found operating in an unhygienic environment, no water which is key to clear the blood stained as this may course threats to public health because if people consumed this type of meat perhaps may be dangerous to his health,”

The court also fined Bachirawa Onion Market the sum of two hundred thousand Naira for failing to honor and present themselves to the market despite letter of visitation sent to them and acknowledged by their management.

The court said one hundred thousand Naira (100,000) fine was imposed on them for failing to show off during the visit, while another hundred thousand Naira (100,000) for finding the market in an unhygienic state.

The court directed that an invitation order should be served to the management of the Onion market to present themselves.

However the state commissioner for environment and climate change Alhaji Nasiru Sule Garo has urged people in the state to complement governments efforts by sanitizing their environment.
“ And ensure total clearance and desilting of their drainages as heavy rainfall is expected in the current rainy season”

Represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry Mahmoud Bello Bari,he urged the management of Waziri Shehu Gidado General Hospital to ensure professionalism in their activities especially while interacting with patients.

He pointed out that the environment ministry would officially write to the management of the hospital on the mismanagement of medical waste and environmental sanitation.

The commissioner added that the state government had set up a committee on proper clearance of major and minor drainages in the state.
