United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, GAVI have described Taraba state as one of the top performing states in the country with impressive outcomes in terms of strengthening healthcare systems in the past three years.

UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique stated this shortly after inspecting some healthcare facilities in the state as part of activities to wrap up its three years Memorandum of Understanding, MoU signed in 2022.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed by Unicef/GAVI, and Nigerian Governor’s Forum was aimed at boosting immunization rates for children and improving governance, accountability, and service delivery in primary healthcare centers across eight states in country including Taraba State.
After three years of active collaboration and implementation, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique said the MoU has helped Taraba state exit the zero child with zero dose status, increased skilled birth attendance coverage, and improved healthcare staff service delivery skills, among other gains.
Attributing the successes recorded to strong partnership efforts, the Chief of Field Office UNICEF Bauchi Field Office charged Taraba state government to build on the achievements of the MoU for enhanced healthcare systems and delivery.
Moving forward, Executive Secretary, Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Tukura Nyigwa, during a press briefing in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, announced plans to launch2 a new project, which will upgrade one hundred and thirteen primary healthcare facilities across the state for maximum service delivery.
He thanked UNICEF, GAVI, and other key stakeholders for their unwavering commitment, pledging that they would maintain the current status quo in strengthening healthcare systems in the state.
