The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has matriculated 8,000 students into 76 academic programmes across 12 faculties for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul-Rahman, reaffirmed the institution’s zero tolerance for all forms of misconduct.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Alemchi Chuku, he emphasised that the university would not condone any form of indiscipline and warned that violators would face severe sanctions.
Professor Abdul-Rahman urged the newly admitted students to respect their colleagues, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff, to ensure a productive and rewarding academic experience.
He also advised them to maintain modesty and decency in their dressing and strictly adhere to the university’s code of conduct as outlined in the student handbook.
“We don’t allow activities of antisocial groups. Anyone found to be involved in cultism will be expelled. If you were a member of any cult group before gaining admission, you are encouraged to voluntarily seek counselling and rehabilitation to reintegrate into society,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor further cautioned students against succumbing to pressure from individuals or groups attempting to recruit them into cultism, urging them to report such threats to the university authorities for prompt action.
On the issue of dress code, Professor Abdul-Rahman stressed that indecent dressing, including improper exposure of the body, would not be tolerated.
He directed security personnel to apprehend violators for necessary disciplinary measures and instructed lecturers to deny entry into lecture halls and offices to students who fail to dress appropriately.
The Vice Chancellor called on parents and guardians to collaborate with the university in moulding the students’ character in line with the institution’s vision and mission.
The Vice-Chancellor assured that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard students on both campuses and their environs.
He urged students to report any suspicious activity to authorities concern for swift action.
