Nigerians have been urged to safeguard their cultural norms, values, and traditions for the benefit of future generations.
The Emir of Fika and Chairman of the Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Dr. Muhammad Abali Ibn Muhammad Idrissa, made this call during the 2025 Daniski Hills Festival, held in Daniski town, Fika Local Government Area.
The Emir emphasized the importance of cultural preservation, calling on parents and caregivers to transmit their heritage to younger generations to prevent its extinction.
He highlighted the role of traditional festivals in safeguarding culture, languages, attire, and beliefs.
Dr. Abali commended the National Museum’s efforts to expedite the listing of Daniski Hill as a national monument.
He added that plans are underway to construct an accessible road to the hillside, facilitating tourist access. Furthermore, he mentioned the intention to extend the festival to three days, enriching the celebration of the people’s customs and traditions.
The Emir thanked the Mai Fune and all participants, wishing them a safe return home.
Earlier, the curator of the National Museum Damaturu, Ralph Mamza outlined the history of Daniski Hill, tracing it back over 360 years to when the last group of Bolewa people departed the Hill in search of more fertile lands.
Mr. Mamza explained that national monuments are designated spaces reserved for future generations to connect with their roots and heritage.
He praised the Emir of Fika, the local community, and the Yobe State Government for their contributions and support in establishing Daniski Hill as a tourist destination and pursuing its inclusion on the world heritage list.
The curator also lauded the security agencies for maintaining the relative peace in the state, which encouraged visitation to Daniski Hill and facilitated its enlistment.
The Daniski Hills Festival, a colourful event held in Daniski town, Fika LGA, showcased traditional dances from across the state. Attendees included traditional and religious leaders, representatives from various security agencies, hunters/vigilante groups, politicians, members of the public and members of the press.
