Office of the Vice President, NEDC, ASSEP engages Bauchi Stakeholders on improving Girls Education.

The Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Programme ASSEP is engaging Traditional and Religious Leaders, Principals, Teachers and other education stakeholders in Bauchi State towards changing the abysmal challenges of education especially that of the Girlchild.

ASSEP is being implemented by Office of the Vice President and the North East Development Commission NEDC across the six state of the sub region.

Speaking at a State Level Engagement with stakeholders, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Regional Development Programme, Office of the Vice President Dr Mariam Masha said the meeting is aimed sharing experiences for the successful implementation of the project.

Dr Mariam Masha said another key focus is to increase the number of children getting into to tertiary institutions by compressing the existing curriculum to accommodate all components of the programme to include Vocational Skills training, adoption of modern teaching methods through the use of Visual Intelligence among others.

“The ASSEP project is geared towards developing the Northeast sub region through Human capital development and Education has a big space with so many aspects that we can leverage on, so we’re looking at how the student can be coached so they pass exit examinations such as JAMB, WAEC proceed to higher institutions of learning which is very dismal now in the sub region. We’ll also leverage on technology like using the concept of virtual reality to empower the students”, Dr Masha highlights.

In a remark, the State Commissioner of Education Dr Jamila Dahiru who restated the present administration’s commitment to educational transformation, emphasised the critical role of the participants in pushing for a better narrative especially after it relates to transparency and accountability.

On his part, an Officer with the NEDC, Office of the Vice President Mahmud Muhammad said the commission was ever ready to provide all the resources needed to train the stakeholders in all components of the programme so as to achieve the set objectives.

In a goodwill message, the Bauchi State President All Confederation if Principals of Secondary Schools ANCOPSS, Malam Rabiu Shehu who said both teachers and students have started seeing the outcome of the programme, promised to consolidate on the efforts made by the implementors to ensure sustainability.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, the State ASSEP Focal Person Hajiya Ladi Muhammad Hamma said so far 120 teachers from 10 selected female secondary schools within the metropolis have been trained on advanced teaching method using Visual Intelligence for improved teaching and learning, enrolment and better performance in exit examinations.

“The engagement we are having today will also help ASSEP to know the challenges being faced and concerns of the teachers in the implementation of the programme across the benefitting schools “, Ladi Hamma explains.

Hajiya Ladi Hamma said already the NEDC has sponsored the training of English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Agriculture and Chemistry teachers by One Million Teachers, an online training platform in the pilot phase of the programme.
