Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has inaugurated drilling for a ten-million-metric-tonne-per-annum capacity cement plant at Diji village, Gwana District in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
Our correspondent, Murtala Muhammad, reports that the project is the outcome of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2024 between the Bauchi State Government and Resident Cement Company Limited.
The initiative aims to utilise the state’s vast limestone deposits for economic and infrastructural development.
Speaking at the event, Governor Bala Mohammed stated that the cement plant has the potential to create thousands of job opportunities and enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Bala Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting private-sector investments that drive sustainable development.
The Governor said the initiative aligns with his administration’s dedication to industrialisation and economic diversification.
The Group Chairman of Resident Cement Company Limited, Dr Abbas Waziri, described the project as a milestone in the economic transformation of Gwana District, Alkaleri Local Government Area, and Bauchi State as a whole.
Dr Abbas urged businessmen to establish hotels and other social amenities to accommodate investors and workers, as business opportunities are expected to expand in the communities surrounding the site.
Commissioners, traditional rulers, including the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu and representatives of the investing company attended the ceremony, which marks the beginning of large-scale cement production in Bauchi State.
