CS-SUNN Trains Journalists on Modalities of Reducing Anaemia Through Scale -up of MMS

A non governmental organization named Civil Society Scaling up Nutrition in Nigeria CS-SUNN has organized a two day training for working journalist selected from different media across the federation who converged in the federal capital territory Abuja to enhanced their capacity on improved visibility of Anaemia reduction through Scale -up Multi Micronutrients Supplements in Nigeria .

Speaking while declaring the workshop opened the Executive Secretary of CS-SUNN Mr Sunday Okworonkwo said the workshop was very imperative with regard to the need to put efforts together in ensuring the Reduction of Anemia through the scale-up of Multiple Micronutrients Supplements in Nigeria.

“Today, we stand at the crossroads of an urgent and collective challenge-the reduction of anemia, a hidden hunger that affects millions, particularly women and children, across our vibrant nation. Anemia’s impact on health, cognitive development, and overall productivity is a barrier we must dismantle for the prosperity and well-being of our communities.”

“CS-SUNN, through this initiative, aims to empower you, our esteemed media professionals, with the knowledge, tools, and resources to effectively communicate the importance of MMS and nutrition interventions. Your voices will echo in homes, policy chambers, and health institutions, igniting action and fostering accountability.”

“Together, let us embark on this transformative journey to ensure that every Nigerian, from the newborn to the expectant mother, from the bustling cities to the rural heartlands, has access to the essential nutrients needed for a healthy and thriving life.”

Speaking while presenting a paper titled” Nigeria’s Nutrition Situation with focus on Micronutrients Deficiencies and Anaemia Prevalence in Nigeria the Head of Food and Nutrition Division , Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning Mrs Chito Nelson said available statistics have revealed that 149 million Children under the ages of five are stunted globally ,which lead to 50% dealth of Children under 5.

” Whenever a child is malnourished his chances dying are high ,while when an infant is healthy definitely his chances of staying alive is also high “

“45 million Children under the age of 5 are wested across the world,97% of these children are in Asia (31.6 million) and Africa (12.2 million).

Mrs Nelson maintained that to achieve the stated objectives there was the need for coordinated platform,media advocacy on policy makers with the aim of ensuring effective policy making and good political will.

During the two day workshop participants would deliberate on Modalities of Reducing Anaemia Through Scale -up of MMS in Nigeria.
