Adamawa Governor pledge support to citizens as labour protest against Government policies

Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri says the hardship being experienced in the state affects everybody just like the civil servants.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri made this known when the leadership of the Nigeria Labour congress NLC and TUC Adamawa state chapter, led by the state chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe stormed the government house to submit the position of the Organised labour in the state for onward transmission to the federal government.

The organized labour joined their counterparts across the country to protest the hardship being experienced by the masses as a result of the removal of subsidy on fuel by the federal government.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented by the Chief of Staff Government house, Doctor Amos Edgar said the state government is aware of the hardship experienced by the people of the state and had been engaging with the Labour Union on measures to be taken in order to ease the hardship on the people.

The Governor appreciated the Labour union for being part of the state palliative committee which had helped in working out modalities and strategies that will help in rolling out palliative measures for workers and the masses of the state.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, comrade Emmanuel Fashe who led the protest said Nigerians have found themselves in a very harsh condition as a result of policies he described as anti-masses by the federal government hence the need for the protest in order to express their grievances.

Comrade Emmanuel Fashe said the purchasing power of an average civil servant and the masses had drastically reduced, as prices of essential commodities had skyrocketed beyond the reach of an ordinary man.

The labour chairman said promises were made eight years ago on revamping the refineries in the country and up to now nothing has been done.

Comrade Emmanuel Fashe said labour Union in the state had appreciated efforts made by the state governor in matching his words with actions.

He called on the governor to continue to do more, especially on the areas of welfare of the civil servants for productivity and development of the state.

The labour union also condemned the attacks on government warehouses in the name of palliative, emphasising that they are union of organised workers and groups who have firm believe that the state government will not abandon its people during this harsh period, adding that they will always remain law abiding.

Also, the Trade Union Congress, TUC chairperson of Adamawa state, comrade engineer Dauda Ali said the situation Nigerians found themselves, especially the people of Adamawa state is strange.

According to him, they were at the government house to express their grievances and channel their worries and demands to the government of the day.

The Nationwide protest was organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the trade unions after series of meetings with the presidential steering committee on palliative on the hardship experienced by Nigerians as a result of federal government’s removal of fuel subsidy and other policies that affects Nigerians negatively.
