The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Mr. Tunji Bello, has called on traders to uphold consumer protection laws and promote fair competition in the marketplace.
Mr. Tunji Bello disclosed this during a Market Engagement Forum held at Dawanau Market in Kano.
He emphasized the importance of honesty and transparency in business practices
The FCCPC Chairman represented by Principal Consumer Education Officer Birget Etim revealed that the commission has taken action against traders engaging in unfair practices, including rebagging and false labeling of food items.
He warned that the commission will continue to monitor markets and take swift action against traders who violate the law.
Bello emphasized the need for partnership between the FCCPC and traders to promote consumer protection and fair competition.
He announced plans to develop educational materials in local languages and provide compliance support for trader groups and associations.
The FCCPC Chairman stressed that consumer protection is a shared responsibility between the government, traders, and consumers.
He encouraged market leaders and traders to report unfair practices and work together to promote integrity in the marketplace.
The EVC expressed his desire to see Kano markets become models of integrity, where honesty is rewarded and fake products are chased out.
The President of Dawanau International Grains Market, Muttaka Isa, welcomed the FCCPC’s initiative and expressed his commitment to partnering with the commission to promote consumer protection and fair competition.
The ceremony was graced by traders and other stakeholders.
