The Borno state government is to scale up the enforcement of relevant laws and regulations of land administration and management in order to entrench good governance in the state.

Executive Secretary Borno Geographic Information Service BOGIS Alhaji Adam Bababe made this known at a media briefing in Maiduguri.

He expressed concern that less than fifty percent of title holders of disposed government quarters and selected layouts in Maiduguri metropolis have perfected their title documents in the last three years.

According to him, the ten selected layouts covers old and new Government Reserve Areas GRA and other high profile areas under the pilot scheme.

“Government upon the expiration of the 3 months period also gratuitously granted extension for occupants to regularise their position before embarking on full enforcement of the terms and conditions of the grant of their statutory Right of Occupancy ” Bababe said.

The Executive Secretary listed some of the infractions related to administration and management to include non-payment of annual ground rent; sale, mortgage, transfer of possession, sublease without the consent of the Agency; change of Land Use and subdivision without the approval of the Governor.

He warned that failure to comply with the terms and conditions of grant of statutory Right of Occupancy could lead to the withdrawal or revocation of the title.

Adam Bababe called on title holders to cooperate with the Agency to strengthen land administration and management in the state.
