PCACC chairman and members of OGP and Kano tracker

The Kano state government (KNSG), has reiterated it’s commitment to partner with the open government Partnership (OGP), team in the fight aginst all forms of corruption, by providing a functional OGP Secretariat.

The chairman Kano state public complaints and anti corruption commission (PCACC),Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimingado,made the indication while recieving participants of a one day session,for the integration of the Kano tracker into open government Partnership (OGP), held at PCACC.

He explained that,the Commission would hand over a fully furnished office, at Gwale local government area to serve as OGP secretariat, to achieve the desired objectives.

Muhyi Magaji decried over the level of corruption in Kano, all relevant stakeholders and civil society Organizations, to support the commission.

The chairman said, the commission is overwhelmed by corruption cases which investigations have already commenced, hence the need for support and collaboration.

He expressed surprise over the attitude of officials from the past administration, for converting public properties to their personal use.

Earlier in her remarks, member state steering committee (OGP), Hajiya Halima Ben Umar explained that, some of the recommendations during the integration of Kano tracker into OGP includes, the need for nomination of government OGP co-chair, functional OGP Secretariat,tracking based on sectors as well as merging of OGP secretariat and the tracker team.

She expressed satisfaction on the level of support and commitment, of the kano state public complaints and anti commission (PCACC), in promoting open government Partnership in the state.

Dr.Abdulsalam Kani from the department of economics, Sa’adatu Rimi university of education Kumbotso Kano,identified innovative strategies for Citizens engagement in Kano tracker.

He pointed out that, the session was organized to discuss creative techniques for Citizens participation in Kano tracker, as well as why OGP is deemed to be the best tagging channel for Kano tracker.

Kano tracker technical officer, Mubarak Daha highlighted the progress and challenges of the tracker, paying particular attention to how government promises, can be followed up, to ensure transparency and accountability.

The one day session supported by Partnership to engage reform and learn (PERL), was attended by the Kano tracker team,members of Kano OGP steering committee,media and all relevant stakeholders.
