Kano Water Board Boosts Monthly Revenue to N160 Million.

The Kano State Water Board says it has achieved a remarkable leap in its monthly revenue generation, moving from less than N50 million to over N160 million ,a 300 percent increase following sweeping reforms introduced by the Ministry of Water Resources.

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Umar Doguwa, disclosed this development while journalists on the activities of his ministry.

He said the turnaround in revenue generation has not only stabilized the board’s finances but also ensured the prompt payment of staff salaries, even after the state government’s implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage.

“When we came in, the Water Board was generating less than N50 million as revenue per month, but I can now tell you that we are generating approximately more than N160 million in a month, doubling the amount by 300 percent,”

The commissioner attributed the success to reforms introduced under his ministry, which focused on efficiency, accountability, and expansion of the board’s customer base.

As part of its reform strategy, the ministry has conducted a comprehensive census of all industries operating within the state.

Doguwa said this move was designed to further enhance revenue collection, improve service delivery, and ensure fairness in billing.

He noted that the reforms had created a more financially sustainable water board capable of meeting its obligations, boosting staff morale, and laying the foundation for long-term infrastructural development.

The Commissioner reassured the commitment of the Kano state government in providing clean portable drinking water to general populace with a view to enhance the well being of the people.
