Bauchi Residents Accused Government of Untimely Evacuation of Waste

People residing close to Waste Collection Centres within Bauchi metropolis have accused the State Environmental Protection Agency BASEPA of untimely evacuation of waste in their areas.

The residents who pleaded anonymity, said the inability of BASEPA to evacuate the waste has resulted in the contamination of their wells, thereby leading to spread of communicable diseases such as Malaria and Typhoid.

They used the forum to call on government to ensure timely evacuation of the waste at various Collection Centres to reduce environmental pollution and guarantee their wellbeing.

In a swift reaction, the Director Inspection, Enforcement and Compliance of BASEPA Muhammad Usman Saleh said the agency together with Cosmopolitan Company are evacuating twenty to twenty five trucks of waste daily.

Muhammad Saleh who urged residents especially those around the collection centres to bear with them due to the quantum of waste collected on daily basis, assured that some of their trucks are under repair and would soon be deployed for timely evacuation.

Radio Nigeria Globe FM Bauchi Environment Correspondent Zulkarnaini Muhammad Inuwa who went round to assess the situation, reports that some Waste Collection Centres within the metropolis are in need of urgent attention and intervention.
