The Adamawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to preventing future flooding through proactive measures to ensure the safety of lives and property in the State.
Adamawa state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri stated this while flagging off the distribution of flood intervention support funds to households affected by the 2025 flood disaster, held at Aliyu Mustapha College, Yola South Local Government Area.
While presenting cheques to beneficiaries, the Governor explained that the victims were grouped into three categories based on the level of damages.
While those mildly affected will receive one hundred and thirty five thousand naira,moderate class victims will receive two hundred and eighty thousand Naira and severely affected households will receive five hundred and fifty thousand Naira each.
He advised residents living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer ground with assurance of continued government’s support.
Fintiri expressed concern over the construction of buildings on waterways, warning residents to desist from such practices or face decisive government action.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services, Barrister Bello Hamman Diram, commended Governor Fintiri for his timely intervention and disclosed that 5,357 affected households in Yola South Local Government Area were identified by the assessment committee, describing the support as impactful and timely.
