Adamawa State has commended the federal government for its efforts to improve security in the state.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri gave the commendation in Yola at the graduation ceremony of nine hundred and eighty-seven Forest Guards in the with a call on residents to cooperate with them to enhance security in the State.
Addressing the newly trained forest guards in Yola, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri said the
trained Forest Guards would be deployed to selected local government areas prone to security breaches in the state.
According to him, the Forest guards programme aligns with the core priorities of his administration, which one of them is to ensure the security of lives and property.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri , represented by the deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, further explained that the Forest Guards training was designed to serve as a first line of defence for communities experiencing attacks by insurgents, stressing that the Forest guards were ready to confront criminal elements threatening peace and security.
In his remarks at the occasion, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, represented by Col. E. Eswagwu, said seven thousand Forest Guards had completed a rigorous three-month training programme in seven pilot states, of Adamawa, Borno, Kwara, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto and Yobe.
He pointed out that the trainees were mobilised under the Presidential Forest Guards Initiative, launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May 2025 as a joint effort between the Federal and State Governments.
The Forest Guards also demonstrated proficiency in weapon handling, contact drills, and other operational skills.
