Eighty Percent of Kaduna Residents Don’t Have Access To Quality Healthcare

The Kaduna State government has expressed concern over the deteriorating and worsening poverty level of the people of the state.
The government maintained that 84% of the citizens of the state can not access health care delivery due to expensive healthcare .
The Director General of the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority(KADCHMA), Alhaji Abubakar Hassan made this known at the opening of a two day workshop for media managers in Zaria on Wednesday.
The DG noted that government was disturbed as it has discovered that eighty four percent of the citizens of the state have been driven to below the poverty line due largely to expensive healthcare access and out of pocket expenses.
This situation he stressed is unacceptable as Kaduna State today is ranked the sixth amongst states with highest maternal mortality in the country.
But he maintained that the present government under Senator Uba Sani have resolved to change the narratives through its almost three year old Contributory Health Management scheme.
However, he asserted that the success of the entire scheme depends on media support, co-operation and understanding, hence the workshop for media managers.
The DG appealed to the media to take the lead by highlighting the significant of roles of health care delivery in our society as well as the importance of health to all.
“The media should assist in the fortification of KADCHMA to achieve its aims and objectives of getting and ensuring that every resident of the state is a beneficiary of its health contributory scheme to access healthcare with little financial implications,” he said.
