The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination to accelerate economic development across the country through the provision of modern and durable infrastructure, with Kano State receiving significant attention under the current administration.
The Minister of Works, Engineer David Nweze Umahi, made this known during the commissioning of the construction of roads at the Economic City, Bichi Phase I and II, in Kano State.
The minister who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai said the project is designed to stimulate economic activities within the area, improve connectivity, and ultimately enhance the welfare of residents and businesses operating in and around the Economic City.
He noted that the North-West geopolitical zone has continued to benefit from numerous federal projects, describing the ongoing interventions as a clear demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to uplifting the living standards of Nigerians through strategic infrastructure development.
“The provision of quality road infrastructure remains a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, as it directly impacts trade, agriculture, transportation, and overall economic growth,” the minister stated.
Engineer Umahi further disclosed that the dualisation of the Kano–Katsina Road, a major federal highway inherited from the immediate past administration, has been sustained by the Tinubu administration and has now reached an advanced stage of completion.
Meanwhile, the minister also inspected the ongoing construction of the Kano Northern Bypass, a 37-kilometre project featuring ten bridges.
He explained that upon completion, the bypass would significantly decongest traffic within Kano metropolis, improve the transportation system, and facilitate the easy movement of agricultural produce from rural areas to urban markets.
He added that the project would also provide easier access for traders and business merchants coming into Kano, thereby strengthening the state’s position as a major commercial hub in northern Nigeria.
Speaking on the quality and progress of the projects, the Controller of Works in the Kano Office, Engineer Abdulsalam Dayyabu, assured that all ongoing constructions are being closely supervised by qualified professionals from the Federal Ministry of Works.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to quality assurance and adherence to specifications, stressing that the projects would be delivered to meet international standards and serve the people for decades.
