Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has officially commissioned the newly constructed Ngalda Modern Market.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, formally named the facility the Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya Modern Market, in recognition of Governor Yahaya’s contributions to regional development and his role as Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum.
Addressing dignitaries, traditional rulers, and community members at the event, Governor Buni disclosed that the project was completed two months ahead of its contractual deadline.
He explained that construction commenced on June 11, 2024, with an initial timeline of twelve months, but was delivered within ten months due to the commitment and efficiency of the contractor.
The governor said the modern market is equipped with 272 shops of various sizes, administrative blocks, mosques, boreholes, paved surroundings, perimeter fencing, and a refuse dump, providing a comprehensive commercial environment for traders and customers.
Governor Buni commended Damuli Investment Company for strictly adhering to project specifications and completing the work ahead of schedule.
He noted that the market would further boost economic activities in the area, adding that the former Ngalda weekly market had already grown into a major commercial hub attracting Traders from across the country.
The governor urged residents to take ownership of the facility by maintaining cleanliness and ensuring proper use of the infrastructure.
He also directed market authorities to put in place effective mechanisms to block revenue leakages, stressing that all proceeds from the market must be fully remitted to government coffers to guarantee accountability and value for public funds.
