15th Convocation: NOUN Graduates 24,575 Students

The National Open University of Nigeria NOUN has convocated about twenty five thousand Students in Undergraduate, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Doctoral degree levels.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Uduma Oji Uduma stated this at the institutions 15th Convocation ceremony held at the university headquarters in Abuja and across study centres nationwide through live streaming.

Professor Uduma Oji said the breakdown of the graduating students included 17,474 undergraduates, 1,788 postgraduate diploma students, 5,282 master’s degree graduates and 31 doctoral degree recipients.

He revealed that the number is the highest in the university’s history, with 57 First Class graduates, 2505 Second Class Upper, 8541 Second Class Lower, 4149 third Class, 234 Pass Degree as well as 56 inmates, reflecting the institution’s commitment to expanding access and inclusive education.

Professor Uduma said the Faculty of Management Sciences recorded the highest number of graduates with 7,455, followed by Social Sciences with 6,024, Health Sciences with 3,939, Education with 3,431, Computing with 2,205, Sciences with 943, Agricultural Sciences with 120, while Law produced six postgraduate graduands.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the University’s stance on Gender balance and equity is reflected in the number of female graduates with 58.3 per cent at undergraduate level, 49.7 per cent at postgraduate and 49.6 per cent among PhD recipients.

Speaking to Our Education Correspondent Abubakar Baba Ahmad, the Director Bauchi Study Centre, Dr Modu Galadima said with over 70 graduands at this year’s convocation, the centre works online, providing students with opportunity to learn Cyber security, Information Communication and Artificial intelligence.

Dr Modu who advised the graduands to apply their practical skills to address societal challenges, warned that misuse of opportunity to perpetrate ill vices may lead to withdrawal of the certificates.

Also Speaking, the Centre Director NOUN Bogoro, Professor Patrick Bogoro appealed to the graduands to use the knowledge acquired to nr8ng positive changes to their immediate environment.

Meanwhile, activities marking the ceremony featured convocation lecture, themed“Nigeria Against Corruption,” delivered by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Godwin Agabi, SAN.
