OGAABS Admits 281 Students, Targets Skilled Workforce for Oil & Gas Sector

The Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri in Bauchi State OGAABS has matriculated the first set of 281 students into various programmes after its upgrade from a National Innovation Diploma NID to a full time National Diploma ND awarding institution by the National Board for Technical Education NBTE.

The Rector of the Institution Dr Ahmad Sulaiman Yero gave the indication at the 2025/2026 Matriculation and Induction of the newly admitted students held at the temporary site of the academy in Bauchi.

Dr Ahmad Yero said the out of the 281 matriculants, 42 students are to undergo specialised Oil and Gas related courses known as Rigpass, while 74 are for Nation Diploma ND, and 165 were admitted into National Skills Qualification NSQ courses.

He said Governor Bala Mohammed has ordered each local government to provide scholarship to twenty students each while other indigent students would have fifty percent discount in fees to ensure wider access.

“I wish to express my sincere appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Kauran Daulan Usmaniyya) CON, for his wisdom to establish this Academy and pave ways for indigent students to be enrolled into the Academy with a 50 percent discount”, Dr Yero says.

While advising the students to remain focused on their goals, respect the rules of law and values of the Academy, the Rector reiterated committed to providing quality education, fostering innovation, promoting character development.

“As an institution, we remain committed to providing quality education, fostering innovation, promoting character development, and equipping our students with the knowledge and skills required to excel in a rapidly changing world. We will continue to acquire and improve our facilities, strengthen our academic programs, and create an environment conducive to learning and research”, He assures.

Earlier, the Registrar of the Academy Malam Sani Muhammad who administered the matriculation Oath to the newly admitted students, warned that failure to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution may lead to suspension, rustication or expulsion.

In their goodwill messages, the Heads of Industrial Training Fund ITF and the National Board for Technical Education NBTE urged the students to remain focused and acquire practical skills to become self reliant and employers of labour after graduation.
