Katagum, Misau, Jama’are, Ningi Emirs advise Bauchi Gov’t on Schools’ Security, ICT, Teachers Recruitment.

Bauchi State Government has been advised to partner Paramilitary and Quasi Security Agencies towards protecting all educational infrastructure from vandalism across the state.

Similarly, the government was charged to provide special incentives to Village and Hamlet Heads to enable them monitor teaching, learning materials and other critical assets in schools within their domain.

The Emir of Katagum Dr Umar Faruk the second gave the advice while receiving the Executive Chairman, Management and Staff of State Universal Basic Education Board on an Advocacy campaign on School Enrolment and Safety, educational facility maintenance and BESDA sustainability at his palace.

Dr Umar Faruk said the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp has the constitutional mandate to protect government infrastructure, hence the need to partner them and other stakeholders in rural areas to monitor and provide adequate security in schools.

He called for massive training of teachers on ICT, reintroduction of skills trades in schools and sponsoring of students to study advanced courses across the world to enable the state seamlessly adopt the learning system of educational delivery in the basic education subsector.

At Misau Emirate, the Emir Alhaji Ahmed Sulaiman represented by the District Head of Ciroma Ahmadun Ahmadu who promised continued monitoring of school activities by all traditional leaders in their respective domains, charged the education secretary and entire staff of the local education authority to ensure strict monitoring to achieve success.

In a related development, the Emir of Ningi Dr Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya has called on education authorities in Bauchi State to ensure discipline and punctuality among teachers especially those posted to rural areas.

The Emir Made the call while receiving SUBEB delegation led by the Executive Chairman Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri on an Advocacy campaign at his palace.

Dr Yunusa Danyaya who expressed worry over the deterioration of education delivery and school’s infrastructure in the area, called for strict monitoring to ensure that all teachers posted to rural areas perform their responsibilities diligently.

He called for the re-establishment of State Teachers Training Institute and reassigning of certain power over the running of schools to traditional leaders to bring back the lost glory of education in the state.

Also receiving the SUBEB delegation at his palace, the Emir of Jama’are, Alhaji Nuhu Ahmad Wabi acknowledged the effort of traditional leaders within the emirate in guardian school facilities, noting that a committee was set up under his Council to ensure the delivery of sound education at the most disadvantaged wards within the emirate.

Alhaji Nuhu Wabi who said the area is faced with the problem of inadequate teachers with some schools having only the Head Teacher and another taking care of religious knowledge as staff, called for massive recruitment of teachers to overcome the challenge.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria shortly after the visits, the Executive Chairman SUBEB Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri lamented that communities no longer take ownership of educational facilities provided to them by government, and pleaded with the Emirs to sensitise their subjects on the need to protect the facilities for maximum utilisation.

Alhaji Adamu Duguri said the BESDA project, implemented in 16 LGAs across the six emirates of the state, provided technical and material support to Tsangaya schools to include construction of classrooms and provision of teaching and learning tools.

Earlier, the State Focal Person of BESDA Malam Nura Ahmad said the project returned over two hundred and eighty thousand children to school, noting that the visit was aimed at exploring ways to ensure sustainability in view of the gains recorded during the three years of its implementation.
