Experts identify Mother tongue as major contributor to early child care education

The use of the mother tongue has been identified as a major catalyst for safe space in early child care learning .

The co-chair of the Kano State Accountability Forum on Education KSAFE Professor Muhammad Bello Shitu made the indication during a two-day capacity workshop on safe space for ECD teachers and SBMC, held at Kumbotso Special Primary School Kano.

According to him, the objective of capacity building is to understand the position of the mother tongue in Nigeria’s education system and develop action plans to improve the use of the mother tongue for effective teaching and learning.

He stressed that others are to appreciate the value of literacy for early grade learners as well as the importance of teaching children to read and write at an early age.

The education secretary ES Kumbotso Aminu Abdullahi expressed optimism that the workshop would pave way for more educational development in the area.

He pointed out that Kumbotso local education authority was committed to providing quality education to achieve the desired objectives.

The ES advised participants to step down the training to ECC teachers to yield positive results.

“IMC Chairman Kumbotso Dr. Kabiru has the zeal and determination of improving education. I have visited SUBEB several times to seek opportunities for such trainings”

The SBMC chairman Kumbotso special primary school Rabiu Idris highlighted that,the role.of mother tongue cannot be over emphasized.

He said the learners start communicating with the mother tongue from home where the use of it in teaching bridge the gap and make learning easier.

The two day capacity building workshop was themed:Themed role of mother tongue in learning teaching and use of innovative resources/ material for early grade children.

Radio Nigeria reports that the two day capacity building for school based management committee SBMC and early child development ECD teachers, was organized by CSACEFA and SOF under the early child advancement program (E-CLAP).
