ACReSAL Gombe, Jewel bikers, collaborate to combat climate change in the state

As part of effort towards restoring degraded land and greening the environment, which is in line with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s Gombe Goes Green, 3G initiative, the Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes, ACReSAL Gombe in collaboration with Jewel bikers club has carried out a Tree Planting Campaign at Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo, Gombe state.

The event which had in attendance Government representatives from both state and Local Government levels, state Acresal team, traditional and religious leaders, members of the Jewel bikers club, security agencies, among others, took place in federal polytechnic Kaltungo Gombe state.

The AcresaL State Project Coordinator, Amb. Sani Adamu Jauro, said Gombe state has been rated as the best performing state which is attributed to the support of the state governor, who is tagged as the green Governor.

The ACRESAL project coordinator also commended the bikers for their effort and reiterated their commitment to keep synergizing with them to carry out the project of planting trees in the environment.

Amb. Sani Adamu Jauro said so far, in the Two years under review, Acresal have planted nearly a hundred hectares of land across Gombe state and they are targeting to plant not less than 6000 trees in federal polytechnic Kaltungo.

He further explained that this year they have engaged the 11 local government council’s chairmen, who have agreed to donate about 140 hectares of land in each of their respective LGA’s for plantation.

Responding to an earlier announcement made by the Rector of the institution Dr. Suleiman Mohammed Lame on setting up the department of Agriculture and that of environmental management, Amb. Sani Adamu Jauro promised to establish an orchard plantation which will serve as a demonstration plot, just as they did in College of Education Biliri, aimed at exposing students to different kinds of activities for better education.

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo, Dr Suleiman Muhammed, appreciated the Acresal Gombe for picking federal polytechnic Kaltungo for their tree planting exercise, adding that it will help in addressing the problem of land degradation.

While highlighting the importance of trees in the environment as well as the need for tree planting, the state commissioner’s for Agriculture, Animal husbandry and cooperatives, Dr. Barnabas Malle, his counterpart from Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Muhammed Saidu Fawu, Chairman Kaltungo LGA, Iliya Suleiman among other dignitaries applauded Acresal for their effort in greening Gombe state and for the tree planting in Kaltungo LGA.

Speaking to newsmen, the National president of superbikes club Association of Nigeria, Hussaini Misari and the state chairman of the Jewel Bikers club Gombe, Bashir Magaji highlighted some of the philanthropic gestures they have carried out, adding that the Jewel bikers Gombe have been hosting the annual event, so as to give back to the society.
