NSE Calls for Strict Adherence To Building Rules.

Following the recent incident of building collapse in Jos the plateau state capital, which claimed over Twenty lives of the students of saint academy, a private secondary school, professionals in the field of building have advised people to abide by building rules and regulations while erecting structures.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria in Gombe, the chairman Nigerian society of engineers Gombe state chapter, Engineer Hamzat Abubakar, described as unfortunate the incessant building collapse in some part of the country.

Engineer Hamzat Abubakar said although the cases of building collapse is not rampart in Gombe state, the society of engineers would not relent efforts in making sure that all building rules and regulations are being followed carefully.

He said the society, through it’s state technical committee under the chairmanship of the state governor Mohammad Inuwa Yahaya, would continue to mobilize all professionals in the field of building as well as client to ensure that even building materials are up to standard.

In the same vein, the out going Chairman of the Nigeria society of engineers, Gombe state chapter, Engineer Ibrahim Kawuwa, said the catastrophe attached to the building collapse needs to be under control and people must respect professional advise in the field of building.

He said people should follow the rules and regulations of the Council of engineering regulation of Nigeria (COREN) and other bodies responsible in examining the standards of building materials.

While expressing his sympathy over the Jos incident, the state chairman of the national association of proprietors of private schools(NAPPs), Malam Abubakar Umar, called on the private schools proprietors in the state to desist from developing or hiring substandard buildings.

He said the association under it’s sub committee on quality assurance will soon embark on inspection of private schools, to ensure that the environment is conducive for leaving.

The NAPPs chairman Malam Abubakar Umar said as major employers of labour apart from governments, they would not relent efforts to make provision for a conducive environment for learning, so as to compliment governments efforts in impacting sound education to the citizens.
