District Heads in Bauchi State have been urged to closely monitor healthcare facilities within their domains to ensure effective service delivery at the grassroots level.
The Emir of Dass, Alhaji Uthman Bilyaminu Othman, gave the charge at the conclusion of the 2024 Bauchi State Emirates Council Committee on Health meeting held at the State Primary Health Care Board’s Conference Hall.
The gathering, which included District Heads, focused on ways to improve routine immunisation, tackle issues of zero dose, and other healthcare services.
Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman who is also the Chairman of Bauchi State Emirates Council Committee on Health (BASECCoH) identified key areas requiring oversight to include addressing immunisation non-compliance, supporting all primary healthcare activities, and assisting immunisation teams to ensure that all eligible children receive full vaccination.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, explained that the 2024 last-quarter review meeting aimed to engage traditional leaders in strengthening healthcare service delivery.
Dr Rilwanu Mohammed highlighted that improving antenatal care services, combating rabies, tackling cerebrospinal meningitis, closing immunisation gaps, and responding to disease outbreaks were the priority of the Board.
He assured that the state government plans to introduce malaria and other vaccines before the year’s end, urging residents to prioritise personal hygiene as the hot season approaches.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) Health Education Officer in Bauchi, Dr Yarima Kuchichi, attributed the successes recorded in the state’s healthcare sector to the dedication of traditional leaders, reaffirming WHO’s commitment to working closely with them to achieve set health targets.
