Bauchi Govt to Restructure Ward Development Committees

Bauchi State Government is to restructure the membership of Ward Development Committees (WDCs) to strengthen healthcare service delivery at the grassroots.

The Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, disclosed this during the 2024 Annual Recognition and Awards Ceremony for best-performing traditional leaders and community resource groups in promoting Primary Healthcare (PHC) services in the state.

Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, who doubles as Chairman of the Bauchi State Emirs Committee on Health and Co-Chairman of the State PHC Task Force, noted that the law establishing the Ward Development Committees would be reviewed with a view to enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.

He appreciated the efforts of traditional leaders, healthcare personnel, and members of the WDCs for their resilience and contributions to the development of the healthcare system in Bauchi State.

In a remark, the Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, said the awards ceremony was aimed at appreciating traditional leaders and community resource groups for their unwavering support in improving healthcare services.

Dr Rilwanu Mohammed explained that the awardees were selected from the six Emirates of the state, including district heads, ward heads, Chips agents, Mama-to-Mama support groups, and members of the WDC.

He used the medium to appeal to the Federal Government to increase the allowances of Ward Development Committee members and ensure timely payment.

On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, commended the awardees for their patriotism and hard work, urging them to sustain the tempo.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees and the six Emirates, the District Head of Bauchi, Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba, pledged to continue contributing their best towards achieving the desired objectives.

The event was attended by stakeholders in the health sector, traditional leaders, women’s groups, family members, and friends of the awardees.
