SON Senstizes Adamawa Stakeholders on Product Standards.

Standards Organisation Of Nigeria, SON, has expanded its Product Identification Scheme, with a view to strengthening traceability, combat counterfeiting and empower Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Director General, Standards Organisation Of Nigeria, SON, Chukwunonso Okeke, disclosed this at a sensitization workshop, themed, Nigeria First: Standardization, path to sustainable economic growth” in Yola-Adamawa State.

He called for a collaborative approach in the fight against substandard products in the country so as to improve the quality of Nigerian products to enhance safety and efficiency to increase global competitiveness.

Reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to the national vision of Nigeria First and the critical role of standardization in driving the nation’s economic development, the SON Chief Executive, Chukwunonso Okeke emphasized that the significance of standards is essential not only for the growth of industries but also for job creation, economic development and sustainable growth.

He, further explained that the integration of standards into business practices is key in promoting innovation.

Okeke added that when businesses commit to meeting standards, they are forced to constantly innovate, improve their processes and adapt to changing market demands, drive technological advancement and ensures goods are safe, competitive and acceptable not just locally, but globally

Commending SON for the sensitization, a Lecturer at Modibbo Adama University Yola, Umar Abdullahi and Lubabatu Musa of Technology Incubation Center Yola, said Standardization is the bedrock of industrial growth, consumer protection, innovation and the secret of international trade.

They emphasized that without strong, applicable and enforceable standards, there can be no sustainable economic advancement, urging manufacturers to put Nigeria first in their production policies, to attract investments, enhance productivity, and build a resilient economy.
