NEDC to Construct Regional Air and Rail Lines in North-East

The Ministry of Regional Development, through the North East Development Commission (NEDC), plans to construct regional air and rail lines in the region to link various parts of the North-Eastern region.

The Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Ahmadu, announced this during a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum at the Government House, Maiduguri, as part of his two-day official engagement in the state.

The Minister of State for Regional Development, accompanied by the Chairman and members of the House of Representatives Committee on the North East Development Commission, as well as Board members and management of the commission, is in Maiduguri to officially inaugurate and hand over thirteen projects executed in the state by the NEDC across various sectors, including Health, Security, Education, and Infrastructure.

Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Ahmadu, highlighted the mandate of the new Ministry and also unveiled plans to execute more projects in the North-East through the NEDC.

Governor Babagana Zulum, who applauded the developmental projects and humanitarian efforts of the NEDC, however, stressed the need to identify priority areas and focus on realizing them going forward.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the NEDC, Usman Zannah, appreciated the support and cooperation of the Borno State Government to the NEDC, which has enabled the agency to discharge its statutory responsibilities.

Managing Director of the NEDC, Dr. Mohammed Alkali, said the thirteen projects to be inaugurated and handed over to the Borno State Government are part of over seventy projects executed within the state by the Commission.
