Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Visits Nigerian Pilgrims Affected by Makkah Fire Incident

A delegation from the Nigerian Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by Senator Ali Ndume, has visited the accommodation of Nigerian pilgrims in Makkah recently affected by a fire incident.

During the visit, Senator Ndume expressed relief that no lives were lost in the fire, which impacted a building housing Nigerian pilgrims in the Shar Mansur area of Makkah.

He stated that the Committee, currently on an oversight mission in Saudi Arabia, deemed it necessary to physically assess the situation and extend sympathy to the affected pilgrims.

One of the victims, Suleiman Ali Muhammad from Borno State, described the incident as heartbreaking and commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON for its swift response.

Also speaking, NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, disclosed that the cause of the fire has not yet been officially communicated to the Commission by the relevant Saudi authorities.

He added that only six rooms were affected, with the damage limited to a few personal belongings such as bags.

The visit by the Senate Committee highlights the Nigerian government’s continued commitment to the welfare and safety of its citizens during the Hajj exercise.
