Bauchi Education Stakeholders Commit To Address Issues Around EGR

Education stakeholders in Bauchi State have reiterated commitment towards reviving Early Grade Reading (EGR), responsible for the state of educational backwardness especially at the primary level.

They made the commitment at a parley organized by the USAID funded Leveraging Assistance Education Resources in Nigeria LEARN to Read Project in collaboration with Connected Development (CODE) project, held in Bauchi.

The meeting drew participants from the twenty local government education authorities, traditional institution, School Based Management Committees (SBMCs), representatives of Parents Teachers Association, Women Groups among others.

The state Commissioner of Education, Jamila Dahiru represented by a Director in the Ministry said government was doing all it could towards improving education sector in the state.

In a remark, the Regional Advisor of USAID funded LEARN to Read Project, Dr Bilyaminu Bello Inuwa said the project was working in Bauchi and Sokoto states, encouraging EGR as foundation for learning with special focus on mother tongue.

He commended Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State for exhibiting high sense of responsibility by constituting a high powered committee recently, saddled with the responsibility of triggering children’s enrollment, retention and completion, under the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu.

Speaking, the Director Quality Assurance in the State Basic Education Board Hajiya Aishatu Aminu said the Board was ready to sustain its partnership with development partners towards improving the state’s education sector.

The District Head of Miri, Alhaji Husaini Usman Abubakar assured the traditional institution’s commitment to work with government, relevant stakeholders to change the negative narrative in the sector.
