UN Women holds 2-day review on WPS Phase 2 project in Bauchi State.

Bauchi State Government says the UN Women, Peace and Security WPS Project is a step towards attaining sustainable peace, inclusion and development in the state.

The Director Women, Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development Hajiya Fatima Abdullahi stated this at the opening of a two day workshop on technical support towards the implementation of phase 2 of the project.

Hajiya Fatima Abdullahi said the training seeks to ensure full participation of women in key decision making activities, hence the need for the participants to pay attention to achieve the desired result.

Speaking on behalf of the Coordinator Women Mediators Network, the Pioneer Coordinator Hajiya Binta Garba said the network has supported local women with technical skills and equipments such as flash lights, whistle for improved security.

Also Speaking, the State Coordinator HeforShe Mr Jinjiri Garba represented by the organisation’s Assistant Secretary Joel Timothy called for proper coordination and involvement of the network in WPS activities to ensure inclusivity.

Other participants at the workshop underscored the need for the reactivation of key WPS structures such as State Implementation Committee as well as advocacy to the state Judiciary to push for the inclusion of women in the activities of state Shari’ah Court of Appeal among others.

The two day workshop with over 30 participants was organised to interact with stakeholders on the achievements, challenges and next steps in the implementation of the second phase of the WPS project in Bauchi State.
