ARMY INAUGURATES SPECIAL COURT MARTIAL TO ADDRESS OFFENCES COMMITTED BY ARMY PERSONNEL.

The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Micheal Mutkut says the administration of justice and fair hearing is crucial to ensuring discipline and military professionalism in the defense of the nation ‘s boundaries .

The GOC stated this at the inauguration of a special Court martial aimed at addressing various offences commited by Army personnel in various operations across the country.

He noted that the court martial, like all courts was established to provides justice not only to the victims of an alleged crime but justice to the State and to the accused personnels.

Major General Mutkut who is also the commander of the Joint Taskforce North West, Operation HADARIN DAJI charged the court to evaluate all evidences before the court in line with the principles of fairness and to decide each case on its merit in order to ensure justice was served to all.

The GOC assured the personnel standing trial that the Court Martial will be guided throughout the trial by the principles of natural justice and fair hearing as contains in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and other laws and procedures related to their trials.

Present at the inauguration of the court were senior officers including the President of the Court Col Kabir Imam, formation commanders, prosecution and defence councils.
