Save The Children presents starter pack to Graduands of Vocational training in Borno.

Save The Children International has presented starter packs to seventy six (76) Graduands of Vocational skills who undergone training in various skills to be self reliance.
Save The Children’s Education Sector Lead, Northeast Nigeria, Daniel Mc Vitalis said the participants of the training were selected across Communities under Konduga local government of Borno State who were mostly affected by insurgency, and received the training for four months.
Mr Mc Vitalis explained that Save The Children implemented the project with the support from ‘Education Cannot Wait’ and have reached over one hundred and sixty eight thousand (168,000) Children and Youths from Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States with Formal Education and Alternative learning Programmes.
He said they have implemented the initiative from the three (3) States via the Consortium of Save The Children, UNICEF, Norwegian Refugees Council and other implementing partners which the beneficiaries will graduate August next year after the period of three years.
Education Officer Save The Children Borno State, Sadiya Abba Kawu noted that the beneficiaries of the Vocational skills training were out of School Boys and Girls who have passed the stage of enrollment for basic education, trained on Shoe and bag making, hair dressing and Saloon, tailoring, restaurant among others, so as for them to earn their living while rendering services for their Communities.
Sadiya Abba Kawu added that they have already implemented the educational Programme for those below fourteen (14) years of age and have graduated which they will also proceed to another level of formal education.
Deputy Education Secretary, Konduga Local Education Authority Adam Zanna Karamma described the intervention from Save The Children as historic which can stimulate the economy of their local government as well as mitigate the negative impact of Insurgency on their People.
He called on local and other International NGOs to emulate Save The Children and Education Cannot Wait by reaching out other Communities worse hit by Insurgency across Borno State.
The Village head of Pompomari Old Air Port Community of Konduga local government, Lawan Baba Gana Ibrahim thanked Save The Children for the gesture and commended them for recognizing their People under their Programmes.
Two of the beneficiaries at the event, Hassan Abbas and Aisha Mustapha who assured to utilize the knowledge gain at the training and contribute to the economic growth of Borno State, adding that starter pack given to them was what inspired them to immediately swing into action.
