SOGON Inducts New Members,Fine-Tune Modalities of Addressing Maternal Mortality

The Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria says provision of necessary equipment for women to deliver successfully is Paramount ,aimed at addressing the challenge of maternal mortality.

National President of SOGON Dr Habibu Sadauki stated this during the opening ceremony of Annual General Meeting and Induction of new members held in Kano.

with the theme The Tragedy of Maternal Deaths in Nigeria our collective responsibilities.

Dr Habibu Sadauki decried high increase of cervical cancer disease ,stressing that their was the urgent need for proper medication to curtail the menace.

He called for all and sundry not to relent in accepting HPV routine immunization for improved health of the general populace,adding that the disease is expected to be wiped out in 2030.

The National President said SOGON sought the registration of association with its global body.

On his part, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State said over two hundred and seventy million naira were spend monthly on maternal health.

Represented by the Commissioner of Health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf said the state will ensure effective functioning of all primary and Secondary Healthcare centres across 44 Local Government areas of the state

Earlier in his welcome address,LOC Chairman Prof Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, said similar event was held 14 years ago in the state capital.

He said the 57 annual conference will focus attention on issues of related maternal mortality.

Prof Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai commended the present administration in the state for according priority to the health sector.
