The Federal government has expressed its resolve to bring to an end the menace of terrorism and insurgency in the North East. 

Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar made the commitment when he led the state Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs to a courtesy visit to Borno state Governor, Babagana Zulum. 

The Minister said their visit is at the instance of President Bola Tinubu to assess the security situation in Borno state and interact with troops in the frontline on how best to end Boko Haram conflict which has lingered for more than fourteen years. 

He explained that the delegation have had frank and extensive discussion with the Governor and promised to deploy the strategies advanced by the Governor Zulum. 

“It is our resolve that in no distant future we will by the grace of God see the end of this insecurity and life will come to normal in the North East ” Badaru said.

Badaru Abubakar expressed the President’s willingness to support the Armed forces and other security agencies to see to the end of the conflict so that people can resume farming and fishing activities. 

Governor Babagana Zulum confirmed that significant gains have been recorded as the result of the military operations in the region, noting that peace is gradually returning to the state. 

He requested the military to take the fight to the enclaves of the insurgents who are not willing to lay down their arms, explaining that the number of repentant insurgents have reached one hundred and sixty thousand. 

After the courtesy visit, the Minister of Defence and his delegation visited Giwa barrack and headquarters of Theatre Command Operation Hadin Kai where he is expected to address troops and recieve security brief from military commanders. 

The Minister of Defence is accompanied by minister of State Defence, Bello Matawalle, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogala, Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar and other senior military officers Defence and other Services.
